MASS LOBBY OF LAMBETH COUNCIL 22 JANUARY AT 6PM
NO to Cuts!
NO to job losses!
Lambeth Council is set to cut £50 million from already stretched vital services and inevitably leading to job losses.
Councils up and down the country are being told that there is no money for services and wages.
The Labour government is making a political choice to continue with austerity, no matter what their ‘spin’ claims. It is decimating essential local services. Local Government workers and the community need to stand up and fight back.
In Lambeth this means £50 million is being swiped from residents’ services, targeting the elderly, the young and the vulnerable Cuts include, but are not restricted to:
- £15 million from Housing, hitting services for the homeless and measures to help those behind in their rent
- £7 million from Adult Social Care and Children’s Services
- £3 million from Climate Change adaption and prevention measures.
Lambeth UNISON branch will be calling on our members to fight these CUTS, telling the council that we will not sit back whilst the Labour run council implements more austerity.
Voters and workers need to hold Labour to account – centrally and locally. That is why Lambeth UNISON is calling for a London wide strategy with other unions and UNISON branches to campaign for NO to cuts and job losses.
The cost of living is still rising every single day. Lambeth workers’ wages, however, have not risen. We cannot afford more cuts. Residents and council employees need to stand together and fight back.
We are calling on all Lambethans to lobby the Full Council meeting on Wednesday 22January from 6pm onwards. The community and workers must make their voices heard and speak up against the CUTS.
Join the Lobby on 22nd January 6pm in front of the Lambeth Town Hall.
