There is a strike of UNISON members working in the Civic Centre on Monday 11th February. This affects two teams, Technical Services and Capital Works.
UNISON members in those two teams are taking industrial action because the flexible working policy is not being applied fairly to them.
Lambeth Council has a flexible working policy which applies to all staff, but in some areas of the Council managers are not following the procedures and are instead issuing blanket refusals for flexible working. This is wrong.
We have tried to negotiate the issues with managers but their response has not been encouraging. An independent investigator was hired to look into the situation but the report has still not been released.
UNISON members are therefore taking action on Monday 11 February from 8am. There will be picket lines at the Civic Centre.
We are asking UNISON members not to cross the picket lines and show solidarity with your colleagues.
The advice from HR is as follows:
“If staff decide not to cross the picket line, the Council will not take disciplinary action in such circumstances. However, it staff do not present themselves for work they will not be paid.”
If we can win on this issue it will send a clear message that management have to be fair with their staff.
Please show solidarity on 11th February!
